Our overall plan
I feel very fortunate to be able to homeschool our kids. It's great fun, and I'm confident that we'll make the most of the opportunity.
I say this because I don’t believe that the average home educator in fact makes the most of the opportunity. While they may be more thoughtful than their mainstream counterparts, the end result is surprisingly similar, just delivered at home.
Reflecting on this phenomenon prompted me to write up what I feel are our core values and intentions. It ended up being too lengthy for this format so I published it here instead: Our homeschool plans.
I wouldn’t necessarily suggest that others emulate us, but it does feel good for my own purposes at least to have our particular approach articulated with some fidelity. Overall we want to develop high agency kids, which requires them to be high capability kids, particularly in science, engineering and mathematics, and in a hands on way. So we will emphasise these topics but do so through constructive projects, and in recapitulating the history of science and technology. If this seems interesting at all, please do read the article and share your feedback here.
